Restoration of Rikuro Miyai's Shadow (1968)
Ann Adachi-Tasch
CCJ is pleased to announce its first preservation project, the restoration of Rikuro Miyai's Shadow (1968), a two-channel 16mm expanded cinema work. Shadow is a projection of two films of his own shadow walking outdoors side-by-side—one positive, one negative—each a reflection of the other. The work will be shown at the upcoming screening on November 4th at Lightbox Film Center.
The project is led by researcher Go Hirasawa, and supervised by Akihiro Suzuki. 35mm internegative blowup transfer will be made from the 16mm positive originals, then new 16mm prints will be made. A full report of the test process will be available in the coming weeks.
